Majak : The Russian Nuclear Disaster
The zebra’s idea
In Paris, we met the Russian activist Nadejda Koutepova, who had to flee the regime of Vladimir Putin. The reason: the lawyer succeeded in making known, via social networks, the nuclear catastrophe of Majak which took place before Chernobyl and which was hidden by the Soviet Union.
Zebra’s response
We filmed in Paris with Nadezda Koutepova, but also in Russia, in the southern Urals, where the disaster took place in 1957. Thousands of people died as a result of the radiation, others fell ill, without any recognition from the Russian state.
